Great Quote

Alexander Ovechkin, after scoring a spectacular goal while sliding on his back, was quoted as saying “I just went down and try shoot and score goal. I saw replay, it was beautiful.”

Let’s see what good old Rick has to say these days. I bet it’s something funny.

Telus, Pt.2

Well, I heard from Telus today. They’ve confirmed that I do want “adsl, no local”, which happens to be the appropriate account for what I need. Whew. I’m sure glad we got that sorted out. For a minute there I thought maybe Telus had deleted my adsl port for no reason. Hey… wait a minute!

They’re going to hook up the phone line on the 18th and then activate the adsl on the 19th. What a swell bunch of people. They were kind enough to let me keep my old account names, passwords and email addresses.

I think I’ll toy with the accounts department for a while. It may take them a while to get some money from me.

Damn Telus

Telus deleted our adsl port last Wednesday. We haven’t had internet since then. Since we use voip for our phone, we also haven’t had phone service. It seems that originally my account was listed as “adsl, no local”. However, I actually have local service through Primus’ talkbroadband voip. Telus realized this, so they decided I needed a new account in their new category “adsl, 1click”. So they decided to delete my existing account and put me line for a new one. Back of the queue, thank you very much. I wonder if they’ve considered creating a third category called “adsl, no local, we screwed up”, whereby people in this category always were able to jump to the front of the queue.

For those interested, primus talkbroadband is great. For $20 a month we get our local calling with a bunch of features like call display, call forwarding, etc. For another $3 a month we get 300 (or is it 500) minutes of North America long distance. So I pay $23 for everything instead of Telus’ $35. I don’t know what Shaw is playing at their voip for $50 a month. They compare it to Vonage’s voip at $40 a month. I have no idea how one can spend $40 on Vonage voip, it must include a lot of extras and unlimited long distance. Either way, I would imagine that most people do not need to spend this kind of money.

The upshot of all this is that I’ll probably switch to Shaw for internet. If I buy a modem for $60 I get the first month free. Every month after that is $38. I currently pay $48 for adsl with telus…

Nikon to Concentrate on Digital Cameras – Yahoo! News

Nikon to Concentrate on Digital Cameras – Yahoo! News

Well, I guess we all knew that this was coming didn’t we? I currently have two Nikon cameras: an FM2 and a N80. Both cameras have their pros and cons. If I could, I would seriously consider trading the N80 for a Nikon digital slr. I don’t think I can get very much for the N80 though. Perhaps with this news there will be a bump in prices for used Nikon film slr cameras. Maybe I should put it up for auction on ebay with a high reserver price. Let me know what you think.
