Some Good Tips on Building a Pygmy Kayak

Building the Pygmy Coho has some good tips for S&G kayak building.

Here’s a tip that I wished I had noticed earlier:
“I cut a plastic cup to match the length of the stitching wires. I put the end of the wire down to the bottom of the cup and cut it at the top of the cup. I repeated until I had a cup full of wires of the correct length. If you cut the wires with a wire stripper (adjust it so you can cut at the notch where you would normally strip) you will get a flat end on the wires. Otherwise, you will find yourself perforated by the sharp points that are sticking out everywhere.”

Started Stitching the Boat

I started stitching the panels on the Tern14 the other night. I hadn’t done much work on the boat recently, and it was good to get into the shop and make some progress.

If you click on the photo below you will see my most recent photos with a bit of information which may/may not be helpful to you, if you are also building a kayak from Pygmy.

This Guy Is More Like It

Hon. Garth Turner, P.C., M.P.

Garth Turner is more like what the Conservatives are supposed to be like. He doesn’t agree with the cabinet appointments, he speaks his mind, and he doesn’t mind publically opposing his party leader.

New government gets early voter thumbs up

New government gets early voter thumbs up – Yahoo! News
Here’s a poll that has me scratching my head. Considering that the only thing the new government has done so far is pick it’s cabinet, and considering that by all accounts it has failed miserably at this, it is suprising that the public have given the Conservatives a 51% approval. I’m not sure how the Conservatives could have actually done a worse job up till now. Read the rest of this entry »

Martin Brodeur

Martin Brodeur is arguably the best goalie in the world right now. He’s not having his best year, but he’s still one of the best in the NHL stats. On top of that, Brodeur is likely The Man you want in net in a big game. Hasek fans may want to argue that last point, but you get the point.

Earlier this week Brodeur signed a long-term deal with the New Jersey Devils worth 6 years at 5.2million per year. I believe there at least 3 other goalies making more this year including Turco, Theodore, and Khabibulin. Apparently there are several reasons for this signing: Read the rest of this entry »

US to expel Venezuelan diplomat

BBC NEWS | Americas | US to expel Venezuelan diplomat

The saga continues…

US State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said Jeny Figueredo Frias, who is chief of staff to Venezuela’s ambassador, would have 72 hours to leave the country.

He said the move was a direct response to the action taken against Capt Correa, and Ms Frias was “the most appropriate” choice.

“We don’t like to get into tit-for-tat games like this with the Venezuelan government, but they initiated this and the US chose to respond,” Mr McCormack said.

Washington has raised concern about the health of democracy under Chavez and has accused him of destabilizing the region. In response, Chavez has said his government is democratic and it is the U.S. that is a destabilizing force. Looking at the recent history of Central America, it does not take a genius to conclude that Chavez is most likely correct. El Salvador, Honduras, Panama and Nicaragua all had (and still have) significant interference from the US government in their successful attempts to destabilize and overthrow leftist leaning governments.

Here is another article that discusses US plans for regime change in Venezuela:
Likely U.S. Plans for Regime Change in Venezuela

I wonder at what point the North American public will finally wake up and become more aware of these issues. Probably around the same time that political, national and global news becomes more popular than celebrity news. This will most likely happen around the same time that North Americans stop watching tv, start exercising more, and stop buying SUVs. I’m not holding my breath.
